PROFESSIONAL BIO
Rene Hollyer has his law degree from Columbia Law School, a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs [formerly the Woodrow Wilson School], and his undergraduate degree from Williams College. He is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey. He has an "av" rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Hollyer has extensive experience in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Mediation, Arbitration, and business related law. Upon graduating from law school, he served as Law Secretary to a highly respected Judge in the New Jersey Superior Court, Essex County, Chancery Division. Thereafter, Mr. Hollyer became associated with the litigation department of Olwine Connelly Chase O’Donnell & Wehyer a Manhattan law firm that practiced in the area of antitrust, securities and other high end commercial litigation. Later, Mr. Hollyer was appointed as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he did a wide range of litigation both on the trial and appellate levels. After approximately six years of practice, Mr. Hollyer established his own firm, and has continued to work in firms bearing his name for more than 40 years. During this period Mr. Hollyer has tried cases in both the State and Federal courts, and has engaged in a broad range of discovery and motion practice in those courts, as well as appeals. He has also participated in Alternative Dispute proceedings, both mediations and arbitrations, conducted through the American Arbitration Association, JAMS, and others.
Mr. Hollyer has had extensive mediation training in programs given in conjunction with the Supreme Court, New York County, Commercial Division, the United States District Courts, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the New Jersey Superior Court, Civil, and the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations. He has been appointed to the Roster of Mediators for the New Jersey Superior Court, Civil, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Supreme Court, New York County, Commercial Division. Over the last ten years, Mr. Hollyer has participated as the mediator in more than 150 mediations and he continues to be active in that practice.
Mr Hollyer has received arbitration training from FINRA and the New York State, New York City and New Jersey Bar Associations. He has been appointed by FINRA to its public arbitrator and Chair panels and has participated as a panel member in several FINRA arbitrations.
Mr. Hollyer is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the New York State Bar Association and is a former Secretary of that Section and former Co-Chair of its Ethics Committee. He has served two 3-year terms on the Mediation Advisory Committee to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, is a former Chair and a former Secretary of the Dispute Resolution Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and has served two 3-year terms as a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, He is also a member of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
